I guess many young composers including myself would rather spend time hating on popular composers rather than learning from them. No one says you have to be like Zimmer, but he is in his position because he does what HE does in a way that people like. It doesn t have to always be about being better than another composer, but rather than making yourself to be someone that a client wants to work with.
