The near-complete absence of Dalit and Adivasi journalists in the Indian media has created a noticeable decline in its sensitivity to issues of caste, communalism and discrimination. Committed to promoting greater diversity, both in the workplace and in the way news is reported, The Caravan seeks a Reporter (position reserved for Dalit and Adivasi candidates) for Vantage, the magazine’s web-exclusive section, to join its fast-paced Delhi-based newsroom.
– Planning, conceptualising, reporting and writing articles for Vantage, the magazine’s web-exclusives section.
– Working with the editorial staff to give shape to original material, and remaining motivated and open to editorial changes and interventions.
– Staying up to speed on breaking news, especially in the areas of politics and business, to identify stories to follow.
– Importantly, to be a keen observer and fast learner of Indian politics, culture and society.
This is a full-time position. Night, holiday and weekend work may be required.
Requirements: 0-1 year experience in reporting and writing. Ability to cultivate sources, interviewing skills, a nose for news, and a commitment to improving one’s own writing. Candidates with a university degree in any subject are preferred.
